CCwaterfront's post is hysterical. So businesses and multifamilies are parking "any kind of crapmobile" so let's expand it to single family homeowners too. Then we can really have some crapmobiles and cargo trailers.

If can't abide by the laws, rules and regulations, don't buy in that community. Don't buy in a gated community with deed restrictions and think the HOA is going to let you have a dog kennel business just because you're hurting financially.
So that doesn't mean they can't be changed. Things change that is the way it is. A city that has regulations that encourage Neighborhood Nazis is not going to be a thriving community. Ergo The Socialist Republic of Cape Coral that can't pay it's bill. You had all the little Nazi rules in place And the property values still anded up in the crapper, that should tell you that the trailers have nothing to do with property values.

thing to do with property values.
A few thoughts:

~By mentioning the Nazis you have invoked Godwin's Law. Not a good sign and a definite slap to Jews who will hardly see the correlation between death camps and trailer rules.

~The home values took a nosedive because the prices that went skyhigh weren't worth it to begin with. A $60,000 home that went up to $250,000 in a couple of years and then down to $40,000 did that because irrational exuberance caused a feeding frenzy based on nothing but ignorant greed and not facts. The Cape Coral ordinances were in place long before any of that happened and had nothing to do with it. The same thing happened in Fort Myers, San Carlos Park, Lehigh Acres and beyond, and most of those areas did not have the ordinances.

But in the long run, keeping the rules in place is why a certain set of people buy in Cape Coral and it will insure that the area is sought after. Yes, the enforced upkeep can be an added selling attraction and can guarantee that values remain strong under normal economic circumstances.

~So in other words, you moved to Cape Coral knowing about the restrictions but thought you could change them, but haven't a clue about how to go about doing that. Yikes. One of the worst things a transplant can do is move to an area and think they can make it into where they came from. Might as well stay home and save your money and your sanity.

I would never want to buy a house where there were no deed restrictions. Been there/done that. Once on this board, a member tried to insult me by asking what type of person cares about her neighbor's house & yard? I was talking about a home I saw for sale in Golden Gate Estates where the house across the road had a lot of garbage on the lawn. Who wants to drive up to his house and see rubbish blowing around? Anyway, I know that's different from a trailer, but neighborhoods without rules end up looking trashy.

As you wrote, you are not the only one.

Since the city needs money and more importantly since parking restrictions are a financial burden on some residents in a city with "the worst economy in the nation", these restrictions should be lifted.

" The Sheppards say a year-and-a-half ago, the city fined them $13,000
Councilman Peter Brandt says he plans to bring the law to the Cape City Council for review.
Councilman Bill Deile says he's for reviewing the law, but people have to remember why the law was created - to help raise property values in the Cape."

Do they charge the boat owners to park on their property?
Second If boat trailers (Cargo trailers that haul boats) did not negatively effect the property values than Multi purpose cargo trailers will not either.

Hiky Baby your way off course were.
that neighborhood nazi reference is justified, on whom you rat your neighbor out to is the problem no for what reason. And I think Jewish people the have lived thru that know exactly what I am talking about, there is no insult here. Only fact, a individual that will inform on their neighbor rather then work on a common solution is the lowest form of being around.

God, I hope they don`t start letting people park crap in the driveways, I like the fact that there are no trailers, boats and work trucks parked all around..that is one of the reasons we bought in SE Cape...who wants to drive around and see that everywhere?

While certainly not humorous, definitely a great line.
