This is an excellent first step to reviving Fort Myers riverfront.

I could find only two for sale signs and one for rent. Most of the homes have been beautifully restored and are well kept. I didn't count but I'd guess seventy percent and I didn't see any I would consider a dump.
The Palm Beach area is mostly rough and some of it is the "hood" as some like to call it. Dean Park happens to be a very nice little (gentrified)neighborhood though that has the misfortune of being surrounded by that area.
I was in the neighborhood 20 months ago.

Fourteen homes for sale. That's a lot for such a tiny neighborhood. Nine of them are in foreclosure.

They sold one home last year. Price? $20,700.

I think it's sad when the only time someone will post is when they have a vested interest in the subject.

I guess you rode thru with rose colored glasses on. Next time open your eyes and really take a good long hard look. Dean Park is in the ghetto.

That's your response anytime someone dares to disagree with you. "They must have an agenda, I couldn't possible be wrong".
Get over yourself.
I have no vested interest in Dean Park, I just think it's nice. I don't own any property there or near there. If I had an agenda would I say I wouldn't feel safe having my family live there?
Look you don't have to agree with me, but don't lie and make accusations. Maybe it's not safe, I don't live there or own property there so I'm not sure. I drive through once or twice a year because I like it there. I'm not claiming to be an expert. You're the one who claims to be an expert on everywhere, everyone and everything. If you're claiming the neighborhood looks like the ghetto and is full of run down and or abandoned homes you are just lying.
So... when you're back in the area you like to spend your time like to visiting the ghetto????? Hmmm

Or a big ole dose of reality. Two drive thru's a year tell you nothing. It's the ghetto..we know that...anyone with half a brain who lives in Lee County knows that.

Fort Myers and Cape Coral both have a lot of crime. I wouldn't advise moving into these Cities unless you find a place in a gated community. Then you may have to put up with snobs and social ladder climbers. If that fits your criteria then you may like it there.

Um, hate to break it to you, but Cape Coral is one of the safest cities (per capita) in the entire state of Florida.

"Cape Coral was the second safest city in the State of Florida among those cities whose population is over 100,000 people.

Port St. Lucie was the safest with 2300.6 crime rate / 100,000. Cape Coral came in as the second safest with 2467.3 crime rate / 100,000." Cape Coral: Second safest city in Florida

I wonder if you're just trying to make yourself feel better?

You just moved to the area. I lived there a lot longer than you. Also, I have no idea why you've singled me out. There are a host of people on this forum that warn against Lehigh Acres. Further, that is not even the subject of this thread.

Social climbers? There are hardly any in Lee County. Once again, you are showing that you know very, very little about the area. Next time I would suggest that you do better and more research before plunking down your money and uprooting yourself and possibly other people.

"Right" (sic) once or twice a year? Once again, research, research, research.

That's correct. Cape Coral is a very safe area. You hit the nail on the head. Anonymously lashing out at others for bad judgement.

Toomudge,

You could not possibly be more wrong about Cape Coral. I have lived here for 34 years. It is a very safe city compared to ALL other cities it size both in Florida and nationally. Lehigh Acres has a lot of problems with crime. The housing market is still poor and while it does have some decent areas overall it is no place I would ever live in due to the crime and depressed local economy.

Also, you telling HIKnapster she does not know what she is talking about is wrong also. I dont agree with everything she says but she does know ALOT about the area after living here and still having family here. Her advice is sound and she is more than generous in trying to help out complete strangers with information on the area. You would be well advised to listen to what she has to say. From your posts it is easy to see you have alot to learn about the area.

Scott
