My friend and I are staying at the KOA campground in St James city for 3 weeks in January. This is our very first time there. What are some of the things we should see/do? what are some of the things we should not see/do?
Thank you!

I would rent bikes and go for a nice ride, they have good sidewalks throughout the island. Take a ferry out of the pineland marina over to either cabbage key for a cheeseburger in paradise or camp overnight on cayo costa. For resturaunts there is reds, sandy hook and for a beer and lighter fare the lazy flaming. Rent a boat or charter one that is captained by a knowledgable local. I'd recomend west coast charters capt kirk san tier

Great advice. If you bike ride be sure to wander off the main roads and explore Pinland and Bokeelia. Stop at the Randall Research center in Pineland and stroll through the grounds.
I'd also recommend renting kayaks. There are many wonderful paddles on and around the island. Prehaps a fishing charter???
Walk though Matlacha and visit the galleries on day. You could then eat at Sandy Hook or have a beverage at Bert's, or a homemade ice cream at great licks. Better yet try all three
Be sure to pick up a Pine Island Eagle (the local newspaper, avalable free at nearly every business) when you get here. It'll have lots of ideas and maybe some coupons.
Basically just get out and enjoy the island. Have fun!

Come on...If you are going to list Ragged Ass, then you might as well list them all at that end......Froggy's, Low Key Tiki, Woodies, and the Water Front. Not that I have ever been to any of them!!!

Don't forget to go to Matlacha! Funky little artist village.. can't miss it since you will have to drive right through it to get out to the island.
