Hi all,

I'm having an ongoing debate with my brother-in-law about moving to Florida. He is a vociferous advocate of being on the Atlantic coast. (Visions of Ft. Lauderdale topless college girls or something, I guess ), but I am convinced the Gulf side is quieter, safer and just as much fun.

So, if you have the time, please tell me "Why I live in Florida, especially Fort Meyers/Lee County."

Thanks,

Edward

1. I wanted a boat in the backyard. It is much more expensive for that on the East coast.
2. Too many New Yorkers on the East coast
3. It is quieter here.
4. There is more nature here.
5. Boating is more scenic in the river and back bays than the intercoastal and ocean.
6. Too many apartment building there.
7. Too much industry there.
8. Easier airport access here.
9. Lower cost of living here.
10.Nicer people here.

I'm enjoying this thread as well. My husband and I are moving to south Florida in June 2014, and we also had the east coast/west cost debate. We LOVE Hollywood Beach, but decent homes are expensive and so is the COL in that area. We have decided on the southern quadrants of Cape Coral. We want low crime, nice neighbors, peace and quiet, and LOTS of nature/outdoor activities. My son will be out of school by then, so we won't have to worry about the school issue. The west coast is also cheaper living and more "bang for the buck". I also like the diversity. The Cubans and Spaniards always mistake my husband for being Latino (he's part Blackfoot); therefore, he'll fit right in. I LOVE Latino culture as well (part Italian).
