And now for some very bad news. Fort Myers/Cape Coral recently saw their fourth straight February decline in jobs. February? When jobs are at their peak? ugh.

Only Palm Bay/Melbourne - ironically where my side of the family lives - has a worst record with five straight declines.

There are also eight other markets with the same decline as Fort Myers/Cape Coral.

Palm Bay-Melbourne extends losing streak, but most markets are adding jobs | The Business Journals

To make matters worse, Fort Myers/Cape Coral is ranked 98 out of 100 in job markets. Even Palm Bay/Melbourne beats that, albeit coming in at 94.

Washington ranks as America's strongest job market, with Dallas, Houston and Pittsburgh close behind | The Business Journals

As always, I view the numbers from "official" propaganda sources with a jaundiced eye.

But the anecdotal evidence, in this case being that I have yet to wait in a line up at the Sanibel toll booths to get on the island, tells me that tourism is waaaaaaay down this year. The job market likely is as well.

YC.......

Its funny that you say that because things were very much like that up here in West Michigan last weekend. We thought it was do to the kids and of course parents being off for Spring break. I drove by a local lake expecting to see a ton of boats out on the lake because of a great mild weather pattern and did not even see one!!

Went to the WalMart, to get a couple of items, very slow as well and my wife who is in management said they had to send several people home early as business was off significantly. What gives??
