Nope not in favor. All you have to do is look at Las Vegas, their real estate bubble is worse then this one.
Crime is really bad there also.

not in favor, the only people who are better off is the casino owner, the house always wins.

I can remember when casinos were going to save Atlantic City. It only made it worse. Vegas is an absolute pit. Some people love that stuff but the community rarely benefits, it just brings a worse element into the area.

SwFlorida just got rid of the gamblers, the high rollers. It's right back where it use to be, a sleepy retirement area. Ugh. Florida already attracts more than its fair-share of transient creeps.

First, let me say I am not for or against casinos coming to our area, it would depend on the circumstances. I lived in Connecticut for almost 10 years right between Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods, the biggest casinos in the world. It is NOTHING like Vegas or Atlantic City, NOTHING! They are very nice, a great place to go hangout, have dinner, catch a show, shop...you don't even have to spend a single dime on gambling. They don't draw much low life scum, sure there are your share of "special" people, but nothing like Freemont St. in Las Vegas. What they did do, was pump a ridiculous amount of money into the economy (I mean billions of dollars a year) and provided literally thousands and thousands of jobs. So if they did something like a Foxwoods or Mohegan Sun somewhere in SWFL, just one or two big casinos I would be all for it. It would provide tons of jobs, inject millions and millions of dollars into an already under-inflated economy and bring big shows and entertainment to the area that we are not getting now. The casinos in Connecticut created their own highways and huge parking garages which really only interfere with one main road that goes to the beach and the only time it's a problem is weekends in the summer. Otherwise you would never really know they were there. I would although, be 100% against them being on the beach or even close for that matter!

Are you specifically talking about Lee County? Immokalee isn't that far from Fort Myers for a night of gambling. I know people on this forum often say "that's not Southwest Florida" when I post on a subject, but look at page one.

"Welcome to Southwest Florida's #1 Destination, Seminole Casino"

SWFL already has enough ways to entice people to spend money. I see people cashing their paychecks in Publix and buying Lottery tickets. I realize that's different from a casino, but in both cases, there's little chance of walking away a winner. At least the lottery gives money to schools. (we can only hope)

There are also local casino ships (for example, BigM Casino, Fort Myers Beach) that are specifically for gambling. A few years ago, a friend invited me to join him, but the air was so full of smoke that I couldn't wait to get back to shore. (I'm a load of fun, huh?)

I used to travel a lot and visited many casinos, so I guess I shouldn't be such a hypocrite, but I'm glad we don't have them here. However, I do agree with Billy that there are still some classy resorts with gambling, but SWFL isn't Dubai (no, I haven't been there) or even Connecticut for that matter.

A lot of the time it's people who can't afford it that spend money for lottery tickets & casino trips.

I've lived in NJ almost all my life and Casinos have done nothing for this state. It just another lobbyist in the politicians pocket.
