It wasn't in season. I lived on Sanibel in '94 and '95 off-season from May-Nov the first year and from April-Nov the next. (don't hold me to the exact dates, however! It was a long time ago) I had a good deal for an off-season rental.

If you have to work a 9 to 5, across the bridge then traffic is def something to take into the equation. Living on the West End makes this even more important. Traveling during off hours is no big deal.
On island, we tend to ride bikes everywhere. I've mentioned this before... this is the only place I know of where we check to see if neighbors are home by the bikes in the driveway, not cars. Riding bikes wherever you need (or want) to go is an incredible freedom.
