Looking to move to CC from Costa Rica ( been there 7 years an it sucks! ) Going there for 10 days to look for a house. Dont need a job.Dont have many expections other than a fairly safe area ( dont forget I am leaving a place where everyone has bars on their windows and they remove their furnitue from the patio or it will get stolen ). The main reason I LIKE CC is the easy access to fishing, good restraunts and a gym to work out during the heat of the day. My concerns are of course hurricanes and high insurance costs. Is there anything else I am missing?

Be ware of homes that may have Chinese drywall or mold problems. If a home has been sitting without air conditioning or proper ventilation for an extended period there may be mold problems. Use the search feature to find extensive info on Chinese drywall. Crime won't be anything like what you described in Costa Rica. You may want to avoid being too close to busy roadways so you don't have too much noise fro traffic.

Agree with Riko!

Make sure to get a good home inspection!! Many of the short sales have sat on and off the market for a bit now, and could use some tlc.

The ones you need to be sure to steer clear, are the ones with Defective drywall. IMO. Even if it has been rehab'd. It is just too new to know the full distruction of the stuff. There are plenty of other homes on the market.

Mold is another biggie in SW FL.

Good luck to you and your home search!
