In January, during a cold snap, take a drive around the gulf down to key west, then on up to st. Augustine, if you have not done so previously

Step 2- start vacationing in your target area

Step 3- rent on a month to month basis, spend a lot of time driving around

Step 4- lease

Step 5- buy in the off season, or just keep renting

A lot of people with more money than brains own but don't have time to use their second homes, so there is a surplus of rentals

I know a number of persons who run their lives by the numbers rather than their egos, and they rent

I have asked this somewhere in this forum but I sometimes get a little lost in different areas. I apologies if I am repeating myself. (My Reputation is 'still' only 'ONE' so I am still just a beginner LOL). So sticking to where I last put an earlier different question within the area for Naples, I will try to keep a thread going in one area:

I wonder if someone local to Naples could advise me on just how busy the roads are around Naples. I read a few time that the roads are sometimes a nightmare due to rush hours traffic most of the day. Is it busy during the summer tourist season or equally throughout the year when the snowbirds flock in for the autumn and winter milder seasons? My wife and I plan to buy a villa in Naples once I retire to live half our colder months in your wonderful milder climate and then return home to England for our spring and summer. Can someone advise me on what to realistically expect when over in Naples during the autumn and winter months please? It would be somewhat frustrating to come over to Naples and find most of the day stuck in busy slow traffic.

Taking Kroeran's advice, we do plan to rent for the first year over before buying. The buying option would probably suit those retired expecting to live longer periods and then have an investment at the end of it to pass on to younger family members or sell. To rent for ten to fifteen years would use up most of ones retirement money with nothing to show at the end of it. Renting is a good option though for dipping one's foot in the water to see which area is best suited to buy though.

many of the wealthiest human beans on the planet choose to winter in Naples....draw your own conclusions.

I am a bit confused...what is the requirement to be out in the car during rush hour when you have the entire day to schedule your drive over to Whole Foods? ; - )

Please read the FAQ and rent before you buy...

You have a point here But is it still busy during the day if retirees or snowbirds are out and having fun going from A to B? Obvously less busy I appreciate.

Moving on a tangent: Wellington came as as a nice location and popular with equestrian people. Would you say equal in the Naples popularity and cost of housing way of life.

Anyone out there have any tips on Wellington on the east side of Florida. Any comparisons or like chalk and cheese?

Post this on the Palm Beach County forum. Jupiter is also very nice. Here's a start.
