Hello,

Was anyone on Sanibel island yesterday afternoon that heard a large BOOM followed by car alarms going off. It was a very low sound that was almost felt more than it was heard.

I just wondered what it was.

It may have been a sonic boom, return of the bloop or ???.

Thanks.

We were fishing 42 miles out off Sanibeel yesterday and heard a loud boom, followed by several smaller booms. really interested to know what that was. We couldn't see any ships or planes. I did see a report of some type of military training exercise up by Ocala yesterday, so not sure if that might have extended down this far??

From Sonic booms rattle Southwest Florida - NBC-2.com WBBH News for Fort Myers, Cape Coral & Naples, Florida

COLLIER COUNTY - A lot of people have called and reached out to us on our Facebook page about loud "booms" in the sky. We found out what exactly was causing the sounds.
We reached out to the Naval Air Station in Key West Thursday. Officials there say they're in training right now - flying jets over the Gulf.

They say the training - along with the dry weather conditions - are most likely creating sonic booms.
"At times out on the ranges, these conditions can provide a unique atmosphere opportunity that allows some booms to be travel farther than normal," said Trice Denny, spokesperson for the Naval Air Station in Key West.
Officials say there's no need to worry if you hear the booms, adding that the bulk of the training will wrap up by next week.

Interesting comment about car alarms going off. I stayed in Destin for a month and that's pretty common around there since Elgin AFB is close by. At least the sound was "low" according to the OP. I could hear bombs exploding!
