Hi folks, I'm looking at a home in the Powell Creek area. Why are these gulf access homes cheaper than the ones in Cape Coral? Does it have more crime, less safe, or is it because it's further to get to the gulf?

I have friends who live in N. Ft. Myers and I would say yes there is more crime there. I wouldn't buy a house there but lots of people do.

Thanks for responding, Angela.
Do you mean all of N Fort Myers or just some parts?

It's just some parts, mae. It's like anything else; it's what you're looking for. We've been here 6 years and have seen lots of issues in Cape Coral with taxes, sewer rates, etc. Ask folks in the neighborhood before you buy anywhere. Most folks are more than happy to share the good, bad and the ugly. Best of luck!

They don't have the restrictions that Cape Coral does which can be a problem. I looked at a couple of homes in NFM before buying in Cape Coral and the thing I didn't like was that your neighbor could have a boat, rv, and/or commercial trailer parked in his driveway--making the place look like a storage lot. I'm sure there are some very nice areas, but in general I found that it was a bit junky in many places. (Of course Cape Coral also has some less-than-desirable areas).

Does anyone know about the Powell Creek gulf access area in particular?

I like North Fort Myers and disagree in regards of crime. However the Powel Creek Area has more older homes and most of the area is laying low. You might have to deal with a flooding. Best thing for you to do, is talk with the direct neighbors of the home. they will tell you.

Even though the area may be far from the gulf, it is right on the river with plenty of great boating right there.
