Looking to purchase a vacation home in the Fort Myers area and could use some information on the neighborhoods. We are looking for a 2 bed 2 bathroom home, probably condo. Budget is $150,000. We would like to be within 15 minutes of beach and within 30 minutes of airport. If possible walking distance to restaurants/bar. Live on Long Island and tired of the winters. Would use for long weekend getaways.
Thanks for the help.

Look at a map of the area. Make a circle 20 miles around SW FL airport. Then make another circle 10 miles around the beaches. The intersecting areas are the places to look. Then do a google map search in that area for restaurants and one for bars. That should give you the criteria you are looking for. $150,000 should be plenty for many condos.

Why don't you look on Ft Myers Beach or as close to Ft Myers Beach as you can get? The airport isn't that far, the beach is full of bars and you'll have your 15 min commute time. If you go off the beach and think you can get there within 15 mins during season....it won't happen...traffic is horrible.

I agree FMB would work except not for $150,000.

Oh, so true, but you can't have it all.

This would be a little out of the box, but how about flying Allegient Airlines from Islip to Punta Gorda (about 30 miles north of Fort Myers airport)? If it's only to avoid winter, the costs are a lot less there or Port Charlotte and you could likely have a better number of choices to meet your needs. My best advice, come down for a week or two, drive around, and see what works for you. Best wishes.

Welcome to the area fellow Long Islander!

We live in the Arborwood/Gateway area and having the airport less then 10 minutes drive is extremely convenient, and we're close to beaches, restaurants, shopping and (Being a Yankee fan I hate admitting this) a beautiful stadium for some NE baseball team.

Now's the time to buy because prices are creeping up.
