I always wonder how Solar Panels will work in the future if there is less sunlight around (meaning more clouds).

I read once that a weak sun = more clouds on Earth. On that note... check out how weak it got.

Interesting write up on it.

When my parents wanted to put solar panels on the roof shortly after they bought their house they were told it would void the roof warranty.

Solar panels, solar pool heaters on the roof will trap debris, rot the roof. Solar pool heaters are worse, but both will damage the roof.

False.

They actually protect and preserve the portion of the roof they cover.

Check out this picture of solar panels that have been through a hurricane.

Installers add sealants and metal flashings to fill in any gaps.. If a roof rotted or went bad then either the panels were installed wrong or the roof was already bad, or old, or low quality..

The only flaw I see with them is the fact that they don't allow the sun to hit the roof which would naturally warm up the home in the winter. THAT doesn't make sense to me but then again it's free energy. But if its over a Garage or shed then makes more sense.

I cant speak to panels harming or protecting the roof. I'm sure many different factors contribute either way.

As far as naturally heating the home during the winter in SW Florida.......it might be an actual concern for three to seven days out of any given average year. With all of said days falling between the last week of December and the second week of February. Typically it's only "cold" here if the sun isn't above the horizon, or has just gotten above it in the last 90 minutes or so.......
