I'm thinking about moving there from CA and looking at condos/cheaper houses. Is it possible to get something in a safe neighborhood that doesn't have any serious problems for less than 100k? Only needs to be a 1-2bd I see lots of them online but I'm worried that many have high HOA dues or other problems. Like one I found that was beautiful in the pictures and then I Google the name and it comes back with a bunch of articles about mold problems and units being sold for 10k or 20k just to get rid of them back in 2008-2009.

The Ft Myers Real Estate market has changed tremendously since 2008. That was during the crash. This area was the top of the list for foreclosures. Many homes sat abandoned.
Now things have turned around. Very few foreclosures and the price has gone up to nearly pre-crash prices.
To find a property below $100,000 that is in good condition would be a rare find.
You are looking at a price point closer to $150,000 and those go fast.
The real estate market nationwide has moved up in price.

Anything in that price range is something you don't want to live in. Perhaps check crime stats before you start looking. There is a shooting/murder nearly every week in ft.
Myers.

Check condos in the Daniel's Pkwy corridor in Fort Myers. Cape Coral might be an option but I personally prefer Fort Myers even though it is a little pricier.
