I was looking to get estimates for hurricane shutters for my condo, my neighbor claims that unless every condo in the building has them, which they don't, the shutters are useless....

Can anyone give any insight on this claim?

that's not true that they would be useless, but your condo may not let you get them because it will look different from the other units.

Some have them, some don't so that would not be an issue

This is a tricky question because if your upstairs neighbor doesn't get them and their apartment gets breached, the water would leak down into your apartment also. You may want to bring this subject up at the next meeting and get a variety of opinions.

Hmm I will. My upstairs neighbor does have them, but I get what you are saying

The only point he would be making is if a neighbor on a top floor do not have the or use them and their windows are broken and the roof starts to come off it doesn't matter that you have them, once the roof is breached it can affect every top unit even those with shutters.

I assume the shutters will prevent debris from being blown into your windows, breaking them and allowing the wind and rain to come in.
