I am moving to Lee county and I am going to buy my first bike. I am basically concerned about the traffic and other problems that anybody else has learned from owning a motorcycle in Fort Myers, FL.

They are everywhere due to the close to perfect bike riding weather in the area.

Just please don't be an a$$hole & weave through traffic like you own the public roads.

Traffic on 75 is a disastrous nightmare during season b/c it is only 2 lanes.

Other than that, traffic is what it is. When there is an accident, it's backed up. When it is rush hour, it's crowded. Etc, etc etc.

You should have no problems if you are a responsible biker.

Enjoy

Be really, really careful. I had a grade school friend die last year from a bike accident and my ex was seriously injured the year before. If it were me, I'd probably only go out on my bike for leisurely drives out to the middle of Florida and use a car for the normal day-to-day traveling. Some people around here look out for bikes while others seem to gun for them.

Motorcycle fatalities have risen significantly since helmets stopped being required. Where a helmet! =) I'd mainly be concerned about being on the road with the elderly people, but you obviously can't avoid them.

I think there's a "Bike Night" every other Saturday (I think?) in Cape Coral along with several events. It seems to be a tight-knit community and you'd probably make friends very quickly.
