Once more in my quest for complete knowledge, I have come across the 2018 Great Algae Bloom in Cape Coral, Fort Myers and Pine Island. A lot of Googling and Youtubing also came across recent (12/2020) concerns for another repeat of 2018 from the recent Lake O releases. And of course the Red Tide stuff occurring now.

Without getting into the Lake O, Big Sugar, lawn clippings and fertilizer controversies, I have a couple of observational questions -

It appears that the brown and blue algae susceptible areas are N/E and S/E Cape Coral with direct access to the River. (I understand there were local blooms in the freshwater system, but I am looking at Gulf Access properties only.) Is this correct?

Some really nasty stuff is poking up in Matlacha this month. Is this common?

Fish kills are being reported in the Pine Island canals around Tropical point and in the St James area due to possible red tide. Is this right and is it common as well?

What algae related issues were or are reported in the S/W (Chiquita Lock exit) or N/W (Matlacha exit) areas?

Anything specific to look out for?

When I tour the area in January, any specific areas to go look at to see what this stuff actually looks like in person?

thanks for any information!
