As much as I love my future Florida home, there of course will be a few things I will miss ......like our Friday night fish fries from up here.

Most every restaurant up here in NY has Fish fries on Friday night. They are usually a big piece of haddock fried in a beer batter, served with steak fries and cole slaw.

I have not yet found this type of fish fry in Florida. Do they have them?

Thanks, Frank

P.S.....disclaimer. I am not a complaining NY'er.....I know that for every one thing I'll miss from up here there are awesome NEW things in Florida to replace them.

Frank, they do have them down here. You kinda have to look for them though. There is a place in Cape Coral that has all the real northeastern seafood(haddock, schrod, whole belly clams). It's here, ya just have to keep an eye out for it.

Chris you hit the nail right on the head with Tilapia. I would urge everyone to stay away from this fish. They were specifically bread as waste water treatment fish as they help to purify the water and essentially can live in any condition (pure sewage). These species are not suppossed to be resold but there are articles / studies on the waste water industry where they site fish protien sales as a cost reduction to their process.

You won't catch me eating these bottom feeders.

No way.... NASTY. Kinda like catfish, I won't eat those things either..... Talapia tasted like crapola when I tried it ONCE about 7-8 years ago.

Frank--and here I thought us 'sconnies had the market on Friday Fish Frys!! It's HUGE here, always has been, it's our German heritage, but it's cod, or perch or blue gill, no haddock. Interesting.

I like tilapia. Of course we don't get much to choose from up here, we LOVE grouper, eat it a couple times a day when we're down. It's very rare to see it on a menu up here, and of course you've gotta wonder how long it's been out of the water, and I have never ever seen it in a grocery store.

I have to say that someone posting a review of their own restaurant on an internet forum would be a deterrent for me to try it, not an attraction.

I posted something like this a couple of days ago...but for some reason, it got deleted:

So....if someone takes an inordinate amount of time to review, and ultimately bash, a restaurant, then that's just an honest review.

But, if someone likes a place and posts something positive about it, then that just means that the person making the post is simply the owner or an employee trying to get a little free advertising.

Gotcha.
