The rest of my immediate family has moved to Florida. My parents live in Fort Myers and my sister in Miami. I currently live in the Midwest but am looking to move to Florida to be with them as my parents are getting older and it won't be long until they need help on a daily basis with everyday tasks. My sister lives too far away at over 2 and a half hours away. More importantly, she has multiple jobs and kids that make her unlikely to be able to help our parents either now or in the future.

I currently live alone and have a job that I would be happy to leave. Problem is that I need to find work in Florida, preferably in Fort Myers if it's a non-remote work arrangement. Any tips on finding work in this area?

Just about every store or business is hiring here. Shouldn’t be too hard to google “jobs in Fort Myers” and find something

Office job preferably. Currently have a job that pays $25.81/hour but isn't located in Florida, hence the issue given the situation with my parents.

The typical online job websites: Indeed, LinkedIn, zip recruiter…

Competition is fierce, pay is low, and until you’ve made the move, you’re going to have a tough time getting responses

Why will I struggle until I've made the move? Can't I just use what will be my new address once I do move on applications even if I haven't officially moved yet?

Age discrimination is huge in FL if close to or over 50, so prepare for that possibility when seeking better-paying jobs (or most jobs for that matter) and would suggest considering other types of work as well.

This is one site to use. https://www.employflorida.com/vosnet/default.aspx

But having an address may not be enough. Since it is family it might work, though. Are you able to get here quickly for interviews? Starting out even as an office executive assistant may not get you $25 and I can admit now since I am retired we sometimes just threw away applications that the person listed more than we could pay-especially if it was more than we were making as department managers.

I am not sure how it works now, but years ago E.F. required you to go to Employ Florida location office to pick up a card to take into interviews or the interviews were held as group interviews at the sight for some positions when businesses were opening new places.

Employers will want you to appear pretty quickly for interviews.
Can you fly down on a moment’s notice?
Have you done your homework as far as what jobs that are similar to what you’re doing now pay down here?
