Ok, so I understand the job market sucks, crime is pretty high, realestate values are tanking, its boring, the schools suck, there are bugs, gaters, and constant threat of hurricanes.
So if we are buying CHEAP in a fairly decent neighborhood, don't care if the property EVER gains value (screw the kids), security system, bringing german shepard guard dog with us and at our side at all times, just want a warm place to live during winter to grow bananas, can we still live our dream?

Oh yeah, we aren't "spring chickens" but by using that phrase, you know right away that we are close to retirement age....but, then, how many of us boomers get to retire? Or better, who really wants too? So we should be making the trek for at least 10 years, maybe more?

In addition to growing bananas, and having a warm place, you'll have basic services as well. Malls, doctors, dentists, paved roads, etc. So it sounds like it will already exceed your expectations........

Seriously, it will work fine for you, but again, nobody can say what will be happening here(or anywhere) in ten years. Good luck.

Don't be nervous, you cannot beat the winters here. And if you are not looking for a job, you will be ok. If you are not a dirt bag I don't believe you need to worry about crime. Plus your German Shepard does help. I have 2 Rottweilers and have never had a problem with crime. Also, with the slow economy the roads are pretty empty. Come on down, this place needs your money!

Who says I have money? Well, I will buy food and gas....and frequent the second hand shops and garage sells. And I am not going to be sitting on my potutee (is that spelled right?). So once I have spruced up the house, buying and planting fruit trees and garden, I am thinking about providing a service of house cleaning, meal preparation and errand running several days a week to several "less" senior neighbors than myself. I am also an artist and may be doing some of that.
So I will be a working snowbird.....am I starting a new species?
AND I AM NOT A DIRTBAG, THANK YOU VERY MUCH......you meant that in jest, of course?
