There is a chance that I will be taking a job in April near 11501 S. Cleveland Avenue, and would have to relocated from Vero Beach, FL. It will be myself and have a well trained chocolate lab.

I currently own a home with my soon-to-be ex husband, so I will have to continue to contribute to mortgage as well as cover my new digs. I am very anxious about finding an affordable, decent, place that I can have my dog. I am accustomed to having a nice single family home with a fenced yard for my dog, and so I am nervous about apartment/condo living due to lack of privacy and noise.

What are my chances to find at least a 2 bedroom in a decent area for $600? I must have a safe, quiet area. A friend suggested in find a snow bird and try to get a discounted, short term lease from somebody that would be happy having someone watch and take care of their home through the summer? Does this situation exist? That way I would have time to look over the area before I bought something.

Please advise.

Man, I wish we could help you out, and you could help us out. We're planning on buying in Port Charlotte and then renting out. You sound like the kind of tenant we're going to be looking for, but we're not that far in the process yet. DANG!!!

I'm a Fort Myers native, so I've seen my share of the area. From what I've seen, I don't think you'll be able to get a 2BR apt in a nice, safe, quiet area in the $600 range.

You would be better off trying to find a snowbird you could maybe rent out from. That's a good idea that could work out for you better than you think. It will most likely be harder to work that situation out though. I would start by scouring Craigslist, then I would go to local churches/bingo halls/VFW gatherings to see if you could maybe network with someone who would be willing to rent you their place for a few months when they're not around.

Good luck.

Josie is small for a lab, but I know what you mean about "big" compared to lap dogs.

I am a horticulturist and own a construction company so I am pretty handy around the home, especially landscape maintenance! Hoping to find an arrangement that is mutually beneficial.

Thanks for your input.

She is a small lab. Cute dog. Don't think you will find any thing for $600. You would probably have to spend about $800 and up.

There are a few apt/condos off Colonial and Six Mile Cypress that are near that address. There are a couple off the Winkler extenstion also. But, be careful where on Winkler, you probably wouldn't want to be that close to the mall. If I were on Winkler, I'd try to get places closer to I75 and Colonial. Also, Daniels isn't a bad drive from there at all. There are several Apt complexes off Daniels. They will be more $, but without a doubt will be in better locations as far as safety and overall convenience are concerned. You are likely looking in the $850-1000 range....Good luck.
