I have lived in North Fort Myers for over a decade. I left the cape and moved to Lochmoor Country Club when it was still a golf course, and moved out to " country" about 7 years ago.

I don't recall ever locking my door except for when I went on vacation. If a time comes when I feel the need to do so, I will move.

North fort Myers, has some really nice areas. There are some waterfront homes, homes with acreage, really nice mobile home parks and some not so nice mobile home parks, and some not so nice homes. We even have a fly in community and golf course communities. It's pretty diverse. Much like Fort Myers.

Like most parts of the country, you get what you pay for. If you live in a $500,000 home, chances are you will experience things that are different from those living in a $30,000 home.

As a guy from Jersey, I even appreciate rednecks now. They are honest, hard working people, who enjoy the simple things in life. If you ever need something fixed ask a redneck, if they can't fix it, they know someone who can.

Yes of course here are redneks but they are very nice people, always there to help out. Neighborhoods are still neighborhoods. There are "farms" on acerages as well as Gulf Acces and Riverfront homes. There are trailer parks where snowbirds just love it and yes there are areas which show higher crime rates as well - but they DO NOT represent all North Fort Myers.

Don't get me wrong, I love Cape coral as well - I work there. However I have 3 large German Shepherd Dogs and up to a few years ago I had 2 horses. No way that I can bring my "zoo" to Cape Coral. I need my acerage. in my "Rednek" neighborhood.
What do you know about River Estates 55+ mobile home community. Thinking about buying a place in there.

I have friends who live in a gated over 55 community in N Ft Myers....they have a beautiful home in a beautiful community with really nice people for neighbors. It is an active life style perfect for retirees. When I visited I didn't worry for a second about crime...not a problem.

Anyone who thinks that North Ft Myers is "Hicksville" needs to live in central or northern NH or Maine where it's an hour(uphill) to anyplace. When we stayed in NFM last winter we were very surprised at how convenient things were. I don't think a 20-25 minute run to Miromar outlets is a big deal either. I may not be all that familiar with NFM, but know plenty of "rednecks" and I'm with DennisDaMenace. Ooops, by some of Jeff Foxworthy's rules I might just be .....
