my rum froze last night. Isn't alcohol not supposed to freeze?? It finally warmed up enough to go in the hot tub. So I had my bottle of citrus rum and my coke zero sitting on the edge of the hot tub, and went to pour myself another drink and the rum was frozen!! Mr. cool had to hold his glass part way in the tub 'cuz his cranberry/orange/vodka drink had turned to a slushie!!!

I would write to the manufacturer and demand an explanation. Alcohol is not supposed to freeze unless the alcohol is watered down?? Was it Spice Rum (love Spice Rum)?
Was it Capt. Morgan's rum??.
I will make a call to the appropriate people (Corporate Headquarters) and get to the sandy bottom of this incident and report back with any and all results. Hic cup****

Nope. Can't blame the Cap't, it was DonQ citrus. Lower priced Bacardi Limon taste alike.

Does liquor freeze? Yes it does, but the freezing point is far below that of water. Exactly what that freezing point is depends on the proof of the liquor.
Water freezes at 0°C (32°F) and the freezing point of ethanol alcohol is -114°C (-173.2°F). Alcoholic beverages are a mixture of both alcohol and water (with sugars and other additives in some distilled spirits) so the freezing point of all of you alcoholic beverages is somewhere in between.
But Don Q will freeze if one is in a Hot Tub in Wisconsin. Wisconsin is the only state that this phenomenon occurs. Very odd.

Well, we're trying, but it's pretty tough in this weather, as you know. We had to wait for it to warm up so we could even go in the hot tub. It's not awful today, the sun is out, finally, and it's maybe 30. AND I heard a bird this morning! That's a good sign!! Now as long as it's cloudy tomorrow so Jimmy the Groundhog does NOT see his shadow, spring will be here soon!

Smile Been cooler than usual down here in Punta Gorda...

and the trick is to drink the rum before it freezes. (Or gets too hot for that matter!). By the way, just to remind myself, the big get-together is Feb. 9th, is that right? And what is the time??? I'm getting a little mixed up- I've got tooo many posts going at once.

Well, I was trying. It froze on the sides of the bottle between drinks #1 and #2.
Monday, the 9th, 7:00, Harpoon Harry's. Be There or Be Square!
