I live in the Tampa area of Florida, so am not much help to you. However, Naples is beautifull,
and very costly. The President did visit Lehigh, because they have no jobs and mega foreclosed homes.
punta Gorda at one time was rated great in Money magazine, then 2004 chaged this. Also you do need to know to get home owners insurance is very difficult. Foreclosed homes, you really do need to do your homework. Also banks are not giving out money.

There are enough threads on Naples to publish a book. If you have a few spare hours for some "light" reading, give it shot.

I agree, Naples is beautiful and there are some foreclosures to check out but not many.

Ummmm --- I live in Naples and there are PLENTY of foreclosures and short sales available here, but you will have to do your homework on them, some in highly desireable areas, some not. As previous posters stated, have to know a little more about your likes and preferences to be able to help you. Otherwise search those towns/areas you mentioned here in City-Data forum to get a feel for what has been said about those towns/areas.

Hi shahkr,

Welcome to City Data! You've found great site with a lot of helpful people, some of which may be lucky enough to befriend, like I have.

I just bought a home in Punta Gorda Isles. It is a smallish SWFL town, but is located in Charlotte County, and is very close to Port Charlotte and North Port. The area right now is vibrant, you should plan a trip and come down and see it. I bought a foreclosed home on a canal. I have a pool, lanai, a boat lift, I have gulf access, it is three bedroom and two baths, one level almost new kitchen, and all quarry tile floors through out! I have a boat and brought it down, and my house is located so it takes me 5-8 minutes to get out to the harbor. If you want to really learn more go to the Florida main thread, and search for a thread called "Punta Gorda Anyone" it was a thread I maintained while I went through my home buying trek down here. It will tell you a lot about insurance (both home and flood issues to consider), costs of things, inspectors, lenders, pool questions, boat questions, real estate agent issues, and who helped me along the way! As usual, I have to give a special shout out to SoFLGal, as you read the thread you will find she is an exceptional agent. Look for her posts and you will find her to be very helpful. Also if you reply to any of her posts she will probably respond back with a helpful answer.

I have a couple questions that will help her and others help you.
1. What price range are you looking for?
2. Do you work now, and will you need a job when you get here? (the job market is tough here)
3. Are you married, and do you have kids?
4. Are schools important to you?
5. Do you boat, need gulf access, fish, sail boat, golf?
6. What other interests do you have, ie culture, arts, crafts, other sports?
7. Approximate age range of the community you are looking to join? Many areas down here can be quite elderly, but they really seem to be changing over as so many new people are moving and buying in the area.
8. House prices are great down here right now, but the ones that are priced well move quickly. There really is a lot of movement in the house sales market down here - it may surprise you a bit. But again, there are a lot of houses for sale and great deals to be made. -- Avoid Short Sales - they take forever and usually end in disappointment. There are some but few success stories there.
9. Where are you from?
10. What was your career?
11. Do you like to be outside?
12. Do you like to garden or enjoy looking at palm trees, hibiscus, gardinias
13. Do you fear snakes, lizards, and bugs?

Good Luck! Come on down for a visit! And if you do make sure you say Hi! Well its going to be sunny again today - maybe 80 degrees.
Where are you from?
