My husband is a fisherman. He hates to just sit at the beach, he needs a rod and reel in his hand.

Are there any good beaches to fish on in Naples? I love the beaches here, but my husband hates pier fishing. Can anyone suggest a place he can fish on the beach and I can relax and enjoy the gulf too?

Thanks,
Kristin

AFAIK you can fish at most beaches. Personally, I cry when I see the fish struggling, but I still eat fish, so I can't be a hypocrite.

I see people fishing on Bonita Beach & Barefoot Beach all the time, especially at sunset. Wiggins Pass State Park allows fishing in restricted areas too. However, from what I've been told, the best fishing is around the mangroves.

That's funny, today I was reeling in a good sized bass and kids were driving by in a boat yelling "let him go , let him go".... for the record I let him go. back to the question, fishing is good everywhere

LOL! that made me chuckle. I have always yelled that same thing. My husband has been fishing since he was a very young boy. His entire family fishes, my daughters fish...I was never into fishing. That is why I need a place where he can go off and fish and I can relax on a beach.

I think we will try the state park. It looks nice and has everything we need, from bathrooms, to beach and of course, a place for my dear Hubby to fish!

Default for the record

By saying I fish all the time has made some people feel like I am bragging, but truth be told I am much more of a redneck than a yuppie and when I use the term boat I do not mean Yacht. And I have never fished before this year.. I was reading a Curious George book to my son and george was trying to use cake and a broom stick to catch a fish.. Well my son asked if we could go fishing and his very first time caught a great one and has been hooked ever since and I think I might be addicted as well. I can't drive by a pond without looking for fish to jump.. here's a link to a youtube video of our charter experience in Matlacha/ pine island
