I'm a single mom and thinking about taking my 3-year old daughter to a beach somewhere for a couple of days.

I have miles on Frontier and can get to Ft. Myers for free.

All we are looking for is a nice beachfront hotel with a pool, a great beach, and calm nice water.

We'd be going May 25th - 28th or so--dates are flexible.

Is Ft. Myers what I want? I'm assuming there are condos for rent?

What part of the area do I want to visit? I keep seeing beaches great for "shelling," but really, we just want the pool and the beach! Are there these types of "resorts" in the area? Somewhere near a town or a pier or fun stuff to do in the evening.

Thanks for any advice! Feel free to let me know if you've got a beachfront condo available at that time.

You would like this hotel in Fort Myers Beach:
Fort Myers Hotels Florida - Pink Shell Fort Myers Beach Hotel Resort & Spa
It is a short walk from Times Square where there is a nice pier. Great pool and right on the sand.

It is a great hotel. I ate at the restaurant there and the food was fabulous! Kids seemed to like the giant octopus sculpture too.

if you stay on FM beach (recommended as a base camp) but rent a car, it would be a short hop (15 minutes to the island) over the bridge to Sanibel for shelling.

Best near the Sanibel-Captiva bridge.

Blind Pass Sanibel's Hidden Treasure

blindpass has been dredged since this article was written

if you were looking for something historical as a break from the sun, older children might be interested in the Edison Ford museum, which would be 20 minutes from the beach.

Welcome To The Edison & Ford Winter Estates Web Site!

and then top it off with ice cream in the historic downtown nearby

or head just south of the beach and check out dog park

If you do go to Sanibel go all the way out to Captiva and get a piece of cake at the Bubble Room. It's worth the trip!
