Hi all,

Just moved to Fort Wayne for a job and my apartment is empty. All I have is an air mattress. Looking to get some nice furniture at a fair price. I was hoping someone may know of a mom and pop shop or a place that sells refurbished pieces? Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

lol. I had to laugh. I'm in the same situation, except in TN. And I did bring a couple of folding chairs. I'm using two rubbermaid storage containers stacked as a table. And a cardboard box from Amazon as the nightstand for the air mattress. lol.

I'm just going to buy stuff from Ikea in a few weeks, but that's perhaps not a good solution for you.

Try checking Craigslist (craigslist: fort wayne classifieds for jobs, apartments, personals, for sale, services, community, and events ) under Free as well as furniture; try joining Freecycle (there's a ft wayne branch: The Freecycle Network - about the Ft. Wayne Group ) and checking there. Try the Ft. Wayne branch of the Habitat for Humanity ReStore (people donate stuff, the ReStore sells the stuff and uses the profits for Habitat for Humanity projects. So it's "green" instead of being stigmatized like goodwill and other secondhand places. http://www.fortwaynehabitat.org/restore ).

Getting a part time job in a furniture store for the employee discount can help if you want new stuff. Markup on furniture is absolutely ridiculous.

May your air mattress stay inflated until you wake, and keep doing so until you replace it. lol.

Treasure House (formerly Bargains Galore) is a resell location that benefits the Fort Wayne Rescue Mission. http://www.therescuemission.net/treasure-house.aspx (broken link)

St Vincent De Paul has a store on Calhoun just south of Downtown.

Concordia High School has a thrift store on Anthony Blvd.

Goodwill has many locations around the area.

Salvation Army has a couple of locations.

Here's a link to a site with many of thrift stores in the area listed. Find thrift stores and charity resale shops in Fort Wayne, Indiana Page 1
