I am trying to find a modern upscale rental in Fort Wayne. I've looked at the places recommended in other posts, but can't find what I want. I'm mid 20's and want something with a bigger city feel. I know Fort Wayne is family oriented, but isn't there anything like this around? I have the budget if I can find the right place. Any suggestions?

Try some custom apartments in the immediate downtown area. Also, there are some new apartments that just got approval to be built right next to the new Parkview Field downtown. The project is called The Harrison. That will most likely be the most modern type of apartment/condo living in the vicinity. However, make sure to check out individual custom apartments that are in like the second/third/fourth floors of downtown buildings. I know there are some there.

For more suburban/upscale living options, check out Reserve at Dawson's Creek, Avalon at Northbrook, Windsor Oaks Apartments. Probably the nicest apartments in suburban Fort Wayne.

Also, downtown there is a place called Midtowne Crossing Condos. Here is a website.

Midtowne Crossing Condominiums

And then again, there is always nice homes all around in the area due to the fact that this is a family oriented city. You could always buy a nice home in the suburbs! Or a historic home in one of the nice areas surrounding downtown in the historic villages.

There really are no apartments in Fort Wayne with that big city feel as far as I know, but the Harrison will have that when it is built.

Thank you for the replies.
@cdr18,
Where should I look for the custom apartments downtown. I haven't been able to find any online. The local paper isn't much help either. I also can't find a rental agent. Where do I begin my search? Thanks so much for all your help!

You might have to search in the particular buildings in the downtown. For instance, although inconvenient, it might require actually going to the building to get that information. I would actually try contacting the city of Fort Wayne and go from there.

Three Rivers Apartments comes to mind, the only real high-rise. I am from there Originally, and my family talks high of the one next to Parkview Field as well. Also, although it's less city feel, you are still connected very closely by main roads, check out the SW side of Fort Wayne, as it's very high-class nowadays.

In addition, one thing that always struck me about Fort Wayne is how the freeway sneaks around the city instead of going through the main downtown, one of the reasons I believe it never grew to it's fullest potential. I often joke with my friends back home when they will get their next skyscraper, like a small town gets its next traffic light. But being from there, having a few large buildings sets you apart, big time in that section of the state. There really is not another place nearby unless you count South Bend...(snicker) and Indy.

Of course, I love my family, friends, and miss the rental prices: I pay $700 for 190ft in West LA, just short of the 405, near UCLA...great neighborhood where I recently moved away from my one bedroom, 650 ft apartment, get ready for this, one parking spot, $1395. The same one now goes for $1595. You can easily pay $2000 within the mile, and nearer to Wilshire...you don't want to know. I've seen apartments for $6000 on Ocean Ave in Santa Monica. The houses nearby start in the millions and I can see Bel Air from my parking lot.

While I was there, I was looking too...I miss my folks, but have a school mission to complete out here. I found that most communities that were expensive were on the SW side, and you could find high end communities there too.

1. Island Club
2. Dupont Lakes
3. Hunt Club

These are places that enticed me...but seeing a full kitchen, and a parking place had me drooling. Not to mention when my Aunt warned me about Rush Hour on Lima Road...and I spent the entire time saying..."This isn't rush hour, the light's green and we're moving...there's only like 50 cars in front of me...this is great!"

Nick

That being said, my friend back home has a studio three times the size of mine, he has a kitchen (I don't) he has AC, (I don't) and windows, (I don't) and parking (I get no spaces!) and pays $350. That made me want to take a month of CALI income and move back. If I saved for 6 months, I could pay a year there easily in living expenses. That's the difference. But no surprise there, it's Indiana. You can buy a house in the neighborhoods surrounding downtown for less than $100,000, BIG ones! A different world. I recommend checking out leasing services, and contact Three Rivers...it's a nice building with a view of the skyline of Fort Wayne, and is at least 15 stories tall...right where the three rivers meet. Very NICE area of the city too...beautiful park there, and access to Coliseum Blvd in less than 10 minutes.
