I am thinking about taking a job in Ft. Wayne and have done tons of research on the city and read all of the forums. I have lived all over the place and will be moving to Ft. Wayne from a similar sized Midwestern city. So my question....what is the nightlife like? Are there a lot of things to do that arent geared towards children and families? I am a single 33 year old woman and my concern is lack of single men or people in general because of the city being labeled "great city for families". Any advice would be appreciated!!!

What similar sized Midwestern City are you moving from? Also Fort Wayne has an ok Nightlife. Granted its not as good as Indianapolis but depending on how much of a nightlife you ask for it might suit your needs.

Yes, I would like to know what city you are moving from? This will help for the sake of comparison. Fort Wayne does alright for a city it's size. Nightlife would pry be rated about a 5 or 6 out of 10. Some areas that might be of interest to you are some downtown spots such as Flashbacks and a few other bars/clubs. Suburban areas have upscale areas that are more bar than club. Regardless, if you go to the right places with the right people you should have a great time.

from my experience there is enough of a nightlife in Fort Wayne for a good night out, every once in awhile. However, you will get bored very quickly if you have to go out every night, or every weekend, for that matter.

Ya Fort Wayne should be fine. Granted its not as big as Des Moines because all of the suburbs of Fort Wayne are part of the city but its pretty fun for a city with 250k people.

People like to drink in Fort Wayne. It is a city of Lutherans, but it is a city of German Lutherans. Basically you can throw a rock in nearly any direction and hit a bar. Now, not all those bars are clubs, those are few and far between, but there bars are everywhere. Some popular clubs in Fort Wayne are Flashbacks in downtown, Babylon - a gay night club just south of downtown, Pierre's in northern Fort Wayne, and Rick O'Shay's in northern Fort Wayne. I don't really know about any other nightclub type places, but that doesn't even cover the multitude of strip joints in the city, but I am sure you can find men at those.

Thanks for all the responses. I officially accepted the position and now need some advice on areas to live. I am looking for an area with lots of stuff to do; shops, restaurants, bars, bike/running baths, etc. Is there an area like this near the VA Hospital? I have read that the best areas are NW and SW.

Thanks!

North Fort Wayne or Southwest Fort Wayne would be ideal. Both have a beautiful YMCA. Both offer beautiful, scenic bike paths. Both have new construction. Southwest side has Jefferson Pointe, an outdoor retail center with some unique shops that are not found that often in the midwest. But, it is a close call in my opinion. The VA hospital is just east of the downtown on the Parkview Campus, so I would probably go with southwest side if I were you. Not as long as a drive.
