Hi,
I'm relocating to Ft. Wayne and hoping for some insight about local neighborhoods. I'm looking to rent a house in a safe and quiet neighborhood. Would prefer a home with hardwood floors and a small yard for organic gardening. Single artsy professional. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Nice
Welcome to Fort Wayne.
Curious to know what area of the country your coming from.
If you want a cool artsy kind of area i would recommend something in Downtown Fort Wayne or close to it.
The Harrison apartment/condo project is almost finished and i believe theres some rooms you can rent and be within walking distance to alot of what Fort Wayne has to offer

How in the world does telling some one about apartments help when the OP specifically asks about houses and wants to have a garden?

cause the OP doesnt know the Fort Wayne area so i would recommend rent an apartment for a couple months. get a *feel* of each neighborhood then rent or buy a house.
Houses always have those *hidden* sides especially when you rent one.
who knows what kind of plumbing problems etc a house you rent has.

I've rented houses. I've rented apartments. I would much rather rent a house.

I don't know how artsy the area is, but I have always enjoyed the area just north of downtown along Crescent Ave up to where it intersects with State Blvd.

West Central is the area just west of downtown FW, you might check there as well.

That is probably just about it for FW; the only other parts of FW I am familiar with are the suburban areas and New Haven.

I forgot to mention Southwood Park. It is on the southside of Fort Wayne, its a pretty neat little neighborhood, or at least I think so.

To the OP - I would look into the Southwest area of Fort Wayne by Liberty Mills Rd/Homestead Rd - lots of trees and some hills and affordable/nice homes with great tree-filled land perfect for gardening. It's a safe area, great schools, there's all the shopping you need nearby and easy access to Highway 69 via exit 302.

I would say more central. Like one of the other posters mentioned. It would be close to downtown, there is a nice diversity. There are plenty of houses for rent or apartments in houses where I am sure if you had a chat with a landlord, they wouldn't mind you having a bit of a garden. You do not hear negative things about that area and its more of a artsy type of community. I have lived all over Fort Wayne and out SW has too much sameness in mentality, out NW is kind of changing, out SE is a little rough and NE is a more of a college type area. Maybe you should rent an apt in a house for 6-12 months and get a feel for the city then figure out what works for you.
