My wife and I are considering a relocation for a job in Auburn IN from Toledo OH. We want to be near good elementary schools, be in the country, but not to far from civilization. I have searched here about Auburn and Ft Wayne and both sound good.

Anyone have and thoughts on either place?

Consider Steuben county area, especially if you like lake living....

Auburn is a 20 minute drive...

My 3 boys graduated from Fremont Schools....small home town educated

I like the advice of the previous poster - in the Steuben County vicinity are some nice glacier formed waterski-permissible lakes you could buy property on. You'll love the lifestyle if you do this. Most of my friends from Fort Wayne (including myself) have second properties on lakes we visit and boat on during the warm months. I wish I lived directly on one year-round, but alas my business is in Fort Wayne and I wouldn't care for a 40+ minute commute to and from work each day (been there, done that).

For your situation I have nothing against Auburn, nor Fort Wayne (I love Fort Wayne), but it is hard to not see the wisdom in lake-living... Lake Hamilton is very nice, as are any of the Lake James chain lakes, or even one of the smaller ones such as Big Turkey Lake or Big Long Lake. There's a ton of properties for sale right now on any of those. In your situation I'd contact some local realtors and get a real estate tour or two of the vicinity.
