I am not entirely sure if this website is posting accurate data, or what the metric is to determine MSA's and included counties. However, in the case of Fort Wayne it would appear the Fort Wayne MSA lost Wells County for some reason or another?

Even despite the exclusion of Wells County, the growth of Allen County was enough to offset it. Allen County gained 30k people from 2010 to 2020, where Wells County has 27k residents.

Anyway, if you wouldn't mind taking a look at the attached link and sharing your thoughts?

If you scroll all the way down to the bottom you'll see the map, with Wells County not shaded orange like the rest of the MSA. Despite this, whatever it is, growth in Fort Wayne and Allen County has been tremendous, 30k people in 10 years is 7.5% growth, pretty incredible, especially for Indiana.

Census people love to add and remove counties to metro areas every decade based on minor shifts in commuting patterns. Makes it hard to accurately see regional growth patterns.
