As some may already know, the Mayor of Fort Wayne was arrested last October after an at fault collision in which he was additionally determined to be OWI.

Just recently released Police bodycam footage of the arrest incident shows the mayor, obviously in high spirits, attempt to exert the authority of his office to influence the police decision making process as to whether he belonged in custody.

(actual video at the end of this article, just before the heading "Timestamps")

You know? We all make mistakes, I am far from perfect myself. But the mayor's attempt to exert the authority of his office to influence the officers doing their jobs...is entirely inexcusable. Our high authorities deserve the very same treatment we receive for our misbehavior.

Of particular note, This episode will likely conclude the Mayor's political career. How fitting that his ultimate demise involves one of those infernal traffic "round-a-bouts" that he has so steadfastly championed as a sign of progress.

"Catalytic and transformative" indeed.

Why would the mayor get to decide whether the police could release bodycam footage of himself? Sounds like the very definition of conflict of interest. He should have resigned immediately.

It's been a notion of dark humor for several years that anyone who upsets city hall will be "rewarded" with the installation of a round-a-bout in their neighborhood......so there is (IMO) no more fitting reward in all of this.

Well, I agree. I suspect it was a case of "absolute power corrupting absolutely" sort of thing. Once they get used to seeing everybody jump whenever they bark, they start to feel entitled...

Sort of like a couple years ago where our Sheriff Gladieux, off duty and under the influence, battered that custodian down at one of the festivals, and afterwards admonished the kid for not knowing who he was dealing with. Really a lost opportunity there in my opinion that the sheriff was not compelled to blow into a breathalyzer on that one.
