Can someone tell me what the average property tax would be if I were to purchase a 4br / 2ba home in...let's say...Fort Worth TX for a purchase price of $225k. Are taxes high? Low? Curious b/c I am looking at the area as a possibility for relocation in the future.

For comparison purposes, I am looking at Northwest Indiana (Chicago suburbs) and their taxes are about $2,000-2600 annual on a home with purchase price of $225k.

Thanks in advance for the feedback!

Depends on which county and which ISD you buy in. You can look up info online. Not one figure for the whole metro area.

It's public information. If you know the street address you can look up any given property on the Tarrant County Appraisal District.

A ball park figure is between 2.3% - 2.7% of the appraised value of the home. Keep in mind we don't have a state income tax so you need to add that to your taxes to see how it compares.

Even with our higher rates we still are lower than most major cities unless compared to Podunk Kansas Or Hooterville TN.

As Rakin said, remember this about Texas:

There is no state, or local, income tax. This is unusual in the US. Only NV, SD, AK, and maybe another have this perk of being a resident.

It is enough of a variable you absolutely must examine it.

Property tax rates may be higher than you expect, but if you make more than average, or have capital gains, you're not taxed, by the state, on those.

I learned this in a very unpleasant manner, in Oregon.

"But there's no sales tax!!!"

Um, yeah, and I don't spend every cent I make. Well, didn't spend every cent I made back then but this economy, or lack thereof, has changed my earnings, significantly.
