This time of year we mostly shop & eat in A/C environments. But the Dallas Aquarium is fun. If you find a show in town at the Windspear Opera House in Dallas that will be a great treat. You can have dinner before the show at the Screen Door. I think Garrison Keeler's Praire Home Companion show (I'm looking forward to that!) will be here during the time of your visit......but check out their website. There's a website guidelive.com that may help.

The only museum I've visited in the area is the 6th Floor Museum in Dallas. Loved it.

it is a fairly easy drive across on 183 into downtown Dallas--if you are not going right at rush hour

if you are little more venturesome--you can take the train which will dump you out at the AA Center in Dallas
just make sure you get the last train back or you will be stranded...
it has happened to some people after basketball games and concerts...

For art, you can't beat the Kimbell Museum. The architecture itself is worth seeing.
