I had a baby snake join me during a shower one afternoon! Like you, I thought it was just a big worm and when I picked it up, realized it was a snake! Quickly dropped it and couldn't plug the bath quick enough to show my husband, so he still doesn't believe me! LOL Good luck in getting rid of them!!!

When we were living in Ridglea (1956-67), we once had a snake come up through Dad's toilet. I think Mom was using it at the time.

Can snakes come into your bathroom from the sewer drains?-081310.jpg Wasn't in my toilet but was in my backyard this morning! Had to call Critter Control... 4 ft King Snake that wrapped itself around a hanging basket. I went to water the hanging basket and the snake did not appreciate being sprayed by water. (click to enlarge the pic to see Critter Control man and snake)

king snakes are the KINGS of snakes--they kill rattlesnakes--mortal enemies--
so I would want that snake in my yard...not in my house though...

Word to the wise - you want to be absolutely sure you're dealing with
Kingsnakes in your yard and not Coral snakes, which are very venomous and
have a striking resemblance to Kingsnakes. Check out this link:
"If you look at a Photo of a Coral Snake next to a Kingsnake you will notice a striking resemblance between the two snakes."

Default Snakes Up the Drain

Yes, snakes DO come up the shower drain. I was IN the shower and looked down and saw a snake head poking out of the drain. I did pour bleach on the snake and down the drain. I have not seen any more- but this is day one.

Sure thats a king? Looks like a Texas Rat Snake - our biggest state snake. I found a 6 footer in my lawnmower shed, and I let it live (much to my wife's dismay). I'm no snake fan, but they say these are good ones to have. I had noticed some big rodent droppings in the shed weeks before, but they are nowhere to be found now. Rodents transmit numerous diseases, while rat snakes can barely break a human's skin (they do like to shake their tails like a rattler though)...

Actually the sewer lines are almost devoid of water all the time, and even when they are used the water that flows in them is only along the bottom, like in a big creek bed. The only place in your entire sewage/drainage line that is filled with water is the small space known as the "trap" in the toilets and sinks. So, it's entirely possible that something could crawl up the sewer drain and into the toilet.

Are there invasive species issues in San Diego? Cobras are not indigenous to San Diego.
