I'm moving to DFW in January for a job I just accepted in fort worth but I'm a bit reluctant to focus on finding an apartment in fort worth.. I just graduated college and am single so I'm wondering if Dallas is probably the best bet to live and have a social life? Or if a place like Arlington or another city in between might be a better bet? I'm just concerned about the 40+ mile commute to where I work and how long it might take during rush hour (I've been in silicon valley for the past 6 months and driving 8 miles could be a 30-40 min commute)..

Just wondering if there are any opinions.

Thanks!

Look at living in/near downtown Fort Worth. There is no need to make that long drive from Dallas when Fort Worth also has cool, urban areas with lots of walkable nightlife.

Going to Ft. Worth from Dallas, not as bad as going into Dallas from Ft. Worth, Arlington is a nice middle point.

You will be hating life after a while if you drive that commute. I would live by where you work if at all possible. FW has really come a long way in the past 10-15 years.

Take a look at west 7th near Montgomery Plaza in FW. The area is booming. Lots of bars, restaurants, nightlife and new condos.

I vote for Downtown FW, not really so much N. FW due to your age and lifestyle. Downtown is a great place. I think you would be looking for a stiff drink every day if you had the commute from Dallas to FW. Although Dallas does have some very interesting sections to live in.

Enjoy and Good luck and welcome to Texas!

there is nothing wrong with living in FTW--
in fact there are aspects that make it more attractive to live in than Dallas especially if you are actually working in downtown
plenty of places to find apts close to downtown or in areas like Hulen/Bryant Irwin--
it has walkable downtown that is safe
plenty of things to do
TCU has good sports scene as well as great grad school
