Does anyone have a recommendation for a well run youth baseball league and football league in Arlington? We are newbies and want to sign up our 8 1/2 year old for spring baseball (and then football in the fall). He's played these sports for several years now (in another state) and just loves 'em! We are VERY leary of the YMCA because he played soccer through them and didn't exactly have the greatest experience.

Thanks in advance for any youth sports advice you can give!

Are you looking for a regular rec league baseball team?

Here's a link for Little League in Arlington: Welcome to the North Arlington Little League.

Here's a link for PONY baseball: Home - PONY Elite Baseball.com

And here's a link to all the North Texas PONY teams: North Texas Pony Web (http://www.northtexaspony.org/BB_ASSOCIATIONS.htm - broken link)

My son grew up playing PONY baseball until he was 14. PONY is a great organization. At your son's age it's all about having fun and learning the fundamentals of the game. At 14 my son went on to play select baseball but PONY gave him the basis of his love for the game. He'll go on to play at a major D1 University next year.

Can't help much for football. If you have any specific questions PM me.

Not much really. Mostly the governing body. Although PONY does have some different rules and sometimes larger fields. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but PONY plays closer to high school rules.

Some areas have more PONY organizations some have more Little League. In our area, NRH, there isn't a local Little League. PONY rules here.

We live in Southwest Arlington and have tried several including YMCA, Mansfield and Arlington sports programs. For baseball, (coach pitch, T-Ball, baseball) we LOVE the Arlington Southwest Little League. They are super organized, and play their games at nice/clean fields by a golf course in Mansfield. For flag football we do the Optimist Club. We are very happy with it too. They both have websites you can check out. Good luck.
