Hello,
My husband is in the final stages of a job offer that would be in Denton. I have read in previous threads that perhaps a posting about Denton would be better in the Fort Worth thread than the Dallas thread? We have two boys ages 4 and 8. We currently live in Singapore and have lived in Sweden for 7 years prior to that. Coming back to the U.S. may be bit of a shock for us!! Here are our top priorities: 1) An excellent public or possibly private elementary school (haven't ruled those out but some of the public schools receive very good marks). Ideally we would try to check out a district that contains a very good middle school as well. 2) A family-oriented community where many children live 3) A commute time to Denton that is less than 30 minutes (he will work near the airport I think) 3) Homes in the 400-500 range. 4) Easy access to daily needs i.e. groceries/restaurants/coffee. Is this too much to ask? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated as we definitely do not know the Texas area and are originally from Oregon! Thanks in advance!
J. Mackimmie

Flower Mound and Highland Village are both part of Lewisville School District and have highly rated schools serving their areas. Both well located for Denton and have many housing choices. You will likely get more land in Flower Mound, but have some great lake view possibilities in Highland Village.

It will be about 30 minutes from either location. There are closer towns, but I think these 2 are the best choices for the combination of resale and schools.

Argyle, if you can swing the housing costs, is scenic (in comparison to other places) and has a great school district.

Argyle is less developed--more homes on larger plots of land as individual homes vs subdivisions--although there are those as well--Flower Mound is much more developed with some nice shopping areas
has at least one subdivision built around golf course--two if you count the Tour 18 development--I think that is in Flower Mound
Argyle does not have much retail development around it
you would have to drive to find shopping like Target store or something more upscale--from what I remember--but there has been development that way so there might be more shopping available

many two lane roads in that area and on weekends there are cyclists who "tour" through the country--driving can be frustrating at times

also Argyle and Bentonville in same area have quite a few people who keep horses on their property--one reason they moved there

you can use the other section of City Data to check demographic info for almost any town in TX
I will see if I can find a good RE site for that area--
guy who runs it has pretty good insight into different neighborhoods but it will be PM
only RE site allowed here is realtor.com

I've been looking into Flower Mound, but there are A LOT of homes for sale there. I'm wondering about the cancer cluster thing--do you think that has impacted real estate there?

Maybe...it is all really speculation IMHO.

I would say to look at Trophy Club. It's on 114 and will have easy access to Denton. Hubby would be going against traffic (most people are going into DFW, not away from it), and it's a really neat suburb.

Thank you for your replies! I have one more question--we're wondering if it is possible to rent a nice home in any of the areas you've all mentioned? Seems like there are many homes for sale but we had some difficulty identifying homes for rent. We've discussed putting off buying for a year or so just to make sure that we've made the right decision wherever we end up living. Also my husband's job may just be a 3 year thing and if that's the case it doesn't make sense to buy. Anyone have insight?

Good idea to rent! Use realtor.com to find rentals, just select rentals instead of homes in the search drop box. Trophy Club is also a good choice! Sometimes information on rental properties is very incorrect (noticed one with a 10 x 10 master.... I am certain that's totally wrong) so get an agent to verify rooms sizes and any information you need. They can also do a video walk thru for you.....
