Hi, I purchased a home in Haslet, TX in Sendera Ranch and was offered a very good job in Dallas, TX. When I input the information into Mapquest - it states that it will take me about 1 hour to travel about 30 miles - is this accurate or is it just Mapquest giving a roundabout time. Thanks

Mapquest is correct. Haslet to Dallas will be about an hour in traffic. There is no major freeway that goes directly between the two, so you will be doing lots of changing roads and sitting in the DFW Connector construction backups.

I'd reconsider that job...that is going to be a horrible commute. This is exactly why we tell newcomers to find the job FIRST, and then get the house.

person may have had job that worked with the Haslet location--
but agree that depending on your drive times it will take an hour at least because of construction going on in 114/121 Grapevine area and the 183 Bedford/FTW corridor

I know someone driving from Haslet to Las Colinas around 6:45/7AM and it takes her about an hour most days. I would say with all the construction, Haslet to downtown Dallas would be about 75-90 minutes each way. Dallas is really big. Where's your job? (Galleria, Medical District, Preston Center, etc). It could easily take another 20-45 minutes to get from Las Colinas where my friend's commute ends to the various different parts of Dallas.

I just hope the OP did not buy the house w/o already have job in place--
making a commute from there to downtown Dallas would be the ninth row of hell in Dante's version of DFW's Inferno...

I live in the Haslet area and drive by Sendera frequently driving into DFW. It routinely takes me 45 minutes to get to the airport at different times of the day, longer if it is during the commute time. I think an hour is generous to get into downtown Dallas.

If it was something where you only had to go into the office once or twice a week, I think it would be fine, but everyday *shiver*.

I had a friend that lived in Keller and commuted into downtown Dallas everyday and it lasted for a few years, but the three to four hours in the car a day was very challenging.

Anyone noticed that the OP's location is Kuwait??

I lived in North FW at one point and worked in Valley Ranch. That lasted 10 months and I moved closer to the office. Took me about an hour and a few times, with the crazy snow storms, I had to stay in the office overnight. That sucked. Point is, the drive will wear on you and you are going even further than I was.

could be oil field worker who bought w/o actually being on site
but that is still no reason for not looking at a MAP for gosh's sake
or doing some research

yeah, what were you thinking OP!!??

I think any way you slice it you'll notice that it's a long, tough commute. You didn't say where in Dallas but that might also add on to your commute. I do that drive at least twice a week from Keller (which is closer to Dallas than Haslet) and it's painful... I would either reconsider the job or moving.
