Hello everyone. I'm new to the forum, but I've been looking over a lot of posts and still can't decide between Dallas and Fort Worth.

I am planning a weekend for 8 guys from Minnesota to do some partying and hit up the Cowboys game on October 2nd. We pick a new city each year, so none of us are too familiar with the DFW area. I'm trying to decide if we would enjoy the Fort Worth or Dallas nightlife better. We're in our lower 30s and are looking to explore the city and do some bar hopping. We're mostly into dive-bar/sports bar places vs. expensive dress-up clubs. We'd probably visit a gentlemen's club too if it's not too far of a cab ride away, so a dinner at a place like Bone Daddy's might be up our alley. Obviously, we'd like to stay in a safe area, but we're not too afraid to wander around since we'll have a big group.

We'd like to get a good feel for the city and we probably won't bother with much of the tourist stuff.

Any suggestions? Stick to the FW Stockyards, or stay closer to Uptown Dallas?

I appreciate the advice!

Your probably better off In Dallas for that. Dallas has Deep Ellum, Uptown, West End as far locations for eateries, Bars, clubs. North Dallas and parts of Arlington have the eateries and gentlemens clubs.

I'd stay at the Omni in Downtown FW Fort Worth Hotels | Downtown Fort Worth, TX Hotel - Omni Hotels it is within walking distance of Sundance Square Sundance Square Fort Worth - Home and I believe they have a shuttle from the Omni to Cowboys Stadium that is 12 miles to the east... There are some cool bars to check out downtown... Sports Bars:
Frankie's Sports Bar and Grill, 425 West Third Street, Fort Worth, Sundance Square, 817-870-9090, Sports Bar, Restaurant (http://www.frankiesbar.com/FortWorth/index.html - broken link)
Ojos Locos Fort Worth - Restaurant/Cafe - Fort Worth, TX | Facebook
Whiskey & Rye - Downtown Fort Worth Restaurant and Bar

Bar bars:
Red Goose Saloon Fort Worth, Texas
Fort Worth, TX Bar | Sundance Square Bar | 8.0 Bar
The Flying Saucer Draught Emporium - www.beerknurd.com
Library Bars (http://www.librarybars.com/Library-Bar-Ft-Worth - broken link)
Embargo Enjoy The Havana Lifestyle - Home
Bar 9 Forth Worth

Gentleman's Clubs:
Rick's Cabaret International, Inc.

Downtown FW is extremely safe and walkable and in addition to all the bar overload I just gave you there are some great restaraunts as well. You might want to check out the new hot spot just to the west of downtown called West 7th and also Joe T's patio in the Stockyards is a must if you like Tex-Mex and margaritas... Hope this helps!

No, no, no... Deep Ellum died years ago. West End is a ghost town and north Dallas is too far (LBJ Freeway construction and traffic delays are in high gear). Uptown is OK but still you'll be taking cab rides everywhere instead of being able to walk everywhere... October is beautiful weather here.

Thanks for the quick replies! I'm curious to see what others think. I guess we could always stay in FW and take public transportation over to Dallas to hang out during the day on Friday or Saturday.

Have you actually been out in Uptown? It's 100% walkable and for what isn't, there's a free trolley up & down McKinney Ave (you know, the mile-long stretch of bars).

You are right abou Deep Ellum and West End, fwiw.

I would agree that downtown Ft.Worth (Sundance Square) is probably more in line with what you're looking for than Dallas Uptown.

You're also a cab ride away from the Ft.Worth Stock Yards, where there's lot of country music bars.

I would also like to add the city of Addison as well to the mix. Known for being one of the restaurant capitals, lot's of bar's there too, and it's a very safe city. (check out the city site)...

I would go for downtown Fort Worth for all the reasons that FWJeff stated. There are many hotels that put you in walking distance to the many bars/restaurants/etc in downtown. It's generally a great place to be at night, especially in October.

I'd amend FWJeff's list to add:
The Fox and the Hound
Fat Daddy's Sports & Spirits
Rick O'Shea's Pub
Four Day Weekend (improv live comedy)

8.0 and Bar 9 might be to 'dressy'.

I'd also throw my hat in for Ft Worth in the Sundance area. I just personally found more bars I like there than in Uptown. The Stockyards are a few miles away from Sundance. The Stockyards are worth seeing, but the bars are IMHO disappointing. I think it's important to go to Billy Bob's just to say you went to Billy Bob's but otherwise I'd even pass on it.

the area around Sundance has expanded also with all that is going on in the West 7th area--
the building where the movie theater is also has a bowling alley (you can hear the pins strike when there is lull in the on-screen activity in the theater we were in)
very safe
walkable in Sundance--have to drive or maybe take the trolley across the river to So7th--
there are more sports bars type places in Sundance recently due to the Super Bowl coming to Cowboy stadium last year but also to just increased marketing for ongoing tourists traffic for Cowboy games and other FTW activities--like the horse events at the Coliseum and TCU football games
big event this weekend with game between LSU and Oregon at Cowboy Stadium--
FTW and Arlington hotels are full and lots of bookings for private room dining at nice restaurants in FTW

you should check out the TCU schedule
TCU is playing New Mexico in FTW

Hangman's House of Horrors will be open doing it usually great job of Halloween Fright Fest-ing

the Cowboy Gathering is happening in Stockyards--will be very crowded but will also have some special events not found regularly--
The Red Steagall Cowboy Gathering and Western Swing Festival

there can be good music at the Bass rehearsal hall-McDavid Studio

Ronnie Dunn from Brooks and Dunn will be at Billy Bob's in Stockyards--that will probably be sold out at some point but rest of Billy Bobs will be open--and concerts there are a CRUSH even if you have a seat...
Billy Bob's Texas - The World's Largest Honky Tonk

the USAF Thunderbirds will be in town for the Air Show at Meechum north of FTW proper
Fort Worth Alliance Air Show - North Texas

think FTW has lot of flavors to sample--
and if you don't have a room you better get one ASAP--
lots of out of town folks will be looking around
IF you can't get room in FTW--check out the Hilton in Hurst--I know that is lame location but it is very nice hotel and within fairly easy commute to FTW attractions or to Arlington--
but no public transport so someone has to be designated drive and be safety man
