Hurst and NRH are dumps? You know nothing about the area apparently. North Hurst and North Richland Hills are some of the finest areas in NE Tarrant County. Bedford has a few nice areas, but it is ripe with apartment complexes and the city is in financial ruin.

Southlake is probably the most overpriced part of the entire DFW metroplex. I see nothing there that interests me at all.

I moved to a town "in financial ruin." I better sell.

Do tell, although, I think we'll be happy just the same .

On the subject of apartment dwellers: They're the same old human beings that live in houses. Nothing new there under the sun. Once we start with classifying people... that's a slippery slope... There's no star on my sneetch belly.

On a related subject, I find NRH to be quite nice with a wonderful selection of new and recently built homes. It's only real downside is its distance from anything of importance to me (like the office and the airport).

Hurst has great shopping!

Bedford has had financial problems for some time. I like Bedford, but to call NRH and Hurst "dumps" is beyond reason. Hurst and NRH are probably the best part of Northeast Tarrant County.

OK, loves2read answered my question in this blast from the long forgotten past (right around the time I decided to leave NJ, not for TX, but ATL. "the best laid schemes....").

I invested my NE equity in Bedford. No regrets.

I am glad to know that you don't regret that house choice Eric--I think your kids are zoned for Meadow Creek and that is a good school as is Harwood--very good rating there as well
Bedford is not in such bad financial shape now--Splash is probably the worst mistake the city made in past 5 yrs--and it might make a profit this summer if the weather stays hot--there are several new businesses coming in--couple of medical centers and expansion on the senior citizen living center off freeway and bedford euless...
having the freeway move through in next few years will cut out quite a bit of our restaurant row--that is going to hurt...
in the past when all the brouhaha went up I don't think the city was in such bad shape either really--but the seniors that caused all the trouble just have their own individual ax to gride and I bet that 90% of them have more income than the avg homeowner in Bedford that is under 50--
I just think they are very selfish and narrow-minded people...but that is my opinion

and I agree that the poster who was so negative about Hurst and NRHills has not made a trip through either one in past couple of years...
Hurst is even putting money into revitalizing the south area along 10 and Pipeline...

L2R, thanks for the information. I have a school related question. In my reading on the HEB ISD website, it looks to me as if my kids only qualify for pre-K if they are low-income, ESL or otherwise disadvantaged. Is that the case?

Not who you are asking...however it's that way for the entire state, basically. Public Pre-K is only for an 'at risk' child at this time.

Thanks for the clarification.

Did I just "hijack" this thread ?

Eric, go back to the HEBISD website...Elementary...then look at Core Knowledge Pre-K. It's an all day program, based on the Core Knowledge program used in all HEB elementary schools. It costs, and it may be too late to get on a list for this year's school year. I found the cost, though paid one full month in advance, to cost less than a month at Children's Courtyard.

It's an excellent program. Look into it , see what you think.

Oke doke. Checked it out. Our son turns 3 this week. As you can see we plan way ahead. Thanks for the head up on this. Looks like our timing is right for next year.

Thanks.
