I'm overwhelmed by all of the information on this site, even when using a narrowed-down search. So, trying to narrow down some places to look this spring on our TX scouting trip. We are coming from Colorado and so far have figured we want to be on the FW side of the metroplex.... Your recommendations would be appreciated. The wish list (as with any wish list, I know nothing is perfect and we will compromise as needed):
- SAFE
- Commuting not an issue but a somewhat vibrant economy would be nice since we would like to open a small business in the area. We'd actually prefer to be away from a metropolitan area.
- Most important is a smaller population that has some town pride
- COMMUNITY essential - don't want a drive-into-the-garage-and-quick-close-the-door area
- We homeschool (3 kids) but a decent school district would be nice so that the OTHER kids are well educated
- Mimimal chains, much prefer mom and pop shops
- A little property - Not interested in a tightly designed master planned community. We like to be able to breathe a bit. Perhaps an equestrian community
- Bonus: Recreation. Trails. Rodeos. Seasonal festivals. Local competitions. Lake. Golf. Tennis
- 500k range

THANK YOU!!!

If you want a non master planned community closer to Fort Worth you might try the Haslet Blue Mound area, which is the west side of 35W, across from Keller/Alliance area. The schools are Northwest ISD, if you want more lakes, then maybe Eagle Mountain/AZle

Before you buy into a master-planned community with an "equestrian center" make sure they will allow you to keep your horse on your own property and not force you to keep it in their barn. I've seen several such developments that boasted "horses allowed!" but the developer's fine print specified they all had to be kept in their barn!

I doubt you can buy in Whispering Farms for $500k. Maybe for $650k or $700k.
