I have a few questions about areas in which I can find a reasonable commute should I work in the 76103 zip code of Fort Worth. I am researching and preparing ahead in case I am offered a position for which I interviewed. I do not want more than a 30 minute commute each way. I am looking for a 1 bdr apt and prefer to not pay over $800/month, but if safety is not provided at that price then I am willing to increase to $900. From a search I did on the forums yesterday, I see that Fossil Creek was a highly recommended area. I'm not sure if that would work for my commute. I used mapquest, but I have been told that even an 18 mile commute can become 1 hr dependent upon the direction and time of day.

I asked some friends who live in DFW and they suggested 76107, 76132, and 76123. Would you all agree with those areas? I do see that 76107 is pretty pricy, but it is close. I'm pretty simple and only plan to rent for no longer than a year before purchasing a home somewhere if possible. I must have covered parking or a garage, washer/dryer hook-ups or in unit. I would love gas, but I see that's not really provided at most apartment complexes. Everything else I can live with. I'm a single late 30's female. If I missed a thread that may answer my question then please feel free to post the link for me here. Thanks in advance

Your friends advise is good. I would go one step further and only look in 76107.

The problem with Fossil Creek is that there is a ton of road construction going on around 820N and 35W and will be continuing down 35W between 820N and downtown for sometime to come. So you might be looking at surface streets for commuting to a job in 76103.

Like any place, neighborhoods vary within zip code. Parts of 76107 are good, but avoid "Como". If your $800 or $900 will get you into one of the complexes in the West 7th area, then I would probably do that. A nice central spot with lots around you for 1 year while you look to purchase.
76132 - Overall, a pretty good zip code and some good apartment options.
76123 - Don't know much about this area myself.

I'd say parts of 76109 could be good, but I don't know how much longer bridge work at Hulen/Vickery will be going on and on the south side of that there is ongoing work where 20/183/and the new Chisholm Trail Parkway intersect.

Estimated completion is Spring of 2014, they have been making good progress so far.
