What would you recommend as the best small town in the fort worth area for a family with young children?

We really liked Aledo. good school system and houses on 1 acre + with tress etc...

It was just a bit to far out for our families needs. I may regret not buying out there though!!

Go to Argyle.... Fantastic schooling with state championships in sports/bands/academics. Argyle is the premier small town to live in in the DFW area and is growing but still has that "county" type of atmosphere. There are a few gas stations and restaurants but with the drive to Denton/Roanoke/Keller/Fort Worth being very short, you find anything within a 10 minute drive. Houses are expensive there but not everyone needs a 3 acre lot with horses and a 3 story house..

^ that may be so but we couldn't find any housing in Argyle under $400+. most we saw available was over 500k. So if you have that kind of money yes that's where lots of folks are moving out to.
As it builds out it may get cheaper (builders moving in and neighborhoods etc...) but part of what makes it so nice is that there aren't big tract homes on small lots.

From my research the Aledo schools seem very well reguarded.

Haslet area with Justin and Rhome and Aurora are nice as well. And Northwest ISD is very good.

JerseyJoy, are you originally or currently in NJ? I'm a transplant from NJ to FW. I don't know much about small town living here, but if I can help you about NJ vs. TX, feel free to ask.

Springtown is a great small town with good schools, award winning band, sports programs and close to Ft. Worth. Small town atmosphere with May Fest, Wild West Fest, Parades and Christmas on the square held in our town square.

I'd also add Haslet to that list, which is where one of my friends currently lives and another one is looking to buy a house out there.

Realize that most of these small towns are at least 30 to 45 min. away from downtown FW and probably an hour or more away from DFW Airport.

Have you looked at Mineola....just 80 miles east of Dallas in the beautiful piney woods...lots of lakes.....state parks. Very pretty and a great place to live. Population just under 5,000. Sad to say we are moving.
