Moving from Houston to Fort Worth due to job transfer (will be working at Alcon, South Fwy).
We are a couple in our late 20s and looking for a 1 bed room apartment within 10 miles radius from Alcon. We can afford upto $900 per month as rent and main considerations are safety & decent community. Any suggestions? We looked at some apartments(Avery Pointe, Covantry) in the CityView area and kind of liked it, is this a good area?

There are a couple of nice complexes near Sublett and 287 in far south Arlington that are not real far from Alcon. I lived in one of them (Chesterfield) in 2001-2002 when it was fairly new. The apartments were spacious and had higher than normal ceilings for apartments in this area. It is a small, quiet complex despite being on the highway service road. The rent was affordable, but still high enough that it kept things civil. We were paying just under $900 for a 2 bedroom back then, so a 1 bedroom in your price range might be doable.

And City View is great. You would have no problem finding something in your price range there. There's a really nice complex north of 20 that is just west of the intersection of Bellaire and Hulen, but I would be shocked if it's in your price range.

I'm considering a position at Alcon, and was wondering if the construction related traffic delays on 35W are still causing issues?

Looking for an apartment for 6 months, and was considering some locations up in Fossil Creek.

You won't want to make that commute!! The construction on 35W right now is a HUGE MESS! Add to that the huge numbers of people driving south from Keller/Saginaw, and it's just awful!

Honestly, look at CityView or Burleson.

^ Thanks for your comments.

Nothing beats being on the ground to fully experience a commute. I will be coming down next week to visit for a few days, and plan to sample a few commute routes from different areas.

I've been monitoring the TxDOT traffic cams this week, and it didn't seem like that traffic on 35W was all that bad. From someone weaned on NYC traffic, the webcam pictures looked downright peaceful and quiet compared to the mess up here. Guess it's all relative to what you're used to.

I went thru a similar experience when we relocated to Charlotte...so many folks made a big deal about commuting times and delays, and I could never figure out what they were talking about.
