I'm moving from CA to TX and need a cheap place to rent... not forever but 6 months or so. CHEAP is important as my income is pretty low. I'm somewhat familiar with the Metroplex, and I know I don't want to rent a cheap apt in the ghetto (e.g., east Park Row in Arlington, pretty much anywhere in Ft. Worth, etc.)

So how do I find a small mobile home or small house that is at the edge of the metro area? (preferably around Kennedale, southern end of Forest Hill or Mansfield, that area of Tarrant County)

I've searched the internet and everything cheap I find is some ghetto apt complex with a pool. I've lived in those types of places before, and the pool is useless because it's dirty (or occupied by dirty people, same thing), cars get broken into, apts get broken into, etc.

I know that low price and crime tend to go hand-in-hand in the city, so basically I'm looking for country ghetto if that makes any sense. Thanks.

I'd check Craigslist. Maybe you can find someone with an extra room and just share a place for the next couple of months.

You can't be too familiar with the Metroplex if you think pretty much anywhere in Fort Worth is 'ghetto'. But like the individual above me said, you should check craigslist for a shared space/room or even take over someones lease. Most any landlord or apartment complex will have MUCH higher rent for any lease term less than a year, even on reasonable places. What is your budget - that will be helpful in getting help.

You can go on realtor.com I found it to be really helpful when I moved cross country. They even rate how good the schools are and show you what school are there in that neighborhood. I recommend that website it won't give you everything, but I found it more detailed then most sites.

The fact is that rental property in the Metroplex IS expensive and depending on your price point you may have no choice but to rent in exactly the area you want to avoid...

the idea that you can get "cheap" and have an operating swimming pool in a nice area doesn't seem compatible to me...
