Hello all!

So I ive just recently had a job transition begin and ill be moving to the Fort Worth area in about a months time (mid to later September) and im looking for some advice on a decent apartments. Im not famillier to the area so this will be a learning experience (even tho shockingly i WAS born in San Antonio, way to come home eh?)

The job Ill be working at will actually be north of fort worth in Haslet, and im trying to keep my costs somewhat down at least for the first 6 months to year til I can recoup the move expendatures. (id really like to keep it under $600/ mo if i could) Im 35 single so im not to concerned about a 1 bed / bath or even a studio, but a lot of the reviews ive read on a lot of the apartment places (tho i agree you should take them with a grain of salt) make me feel I should sleep beside my 12 gauge and my handgun under the pillow O.o;

Any advice, ideas, known good places?

Thanks and any and all tips are welcome to prep me

Haslet is in the "Alliance" area of north Fort Worth, so you will want to look in Keller, Roanoke, and possibly North Richland Hills areas, and all of those are safe areas. I will say that $600 is a low budget, even for a 1br. You will likely want to use an apartment locator service to help you find a good place within your budget.

Spend the first week in an extended stay hotel. Then start your search from your place of employment. There a lot of rental complexes from Western Center Blvd towards Haslet.

Thanks for the insight! Yea, after reading a few posts here I came across the whole "extended stay" aspect such as the value place and the like. There happens to be one at "Fossil Creek", So I think I probably will try to set up a stay there for a week or so to get that out of the way. Thanks

North Richland Hills to Haslet I would not recommend. Think of crossing US highway 377 as a +15 minutes to your commute. It's not so bad coming from Roanoke, but North Tarrant Parkway, Mid Cities BLVD, or FM1709... not fun.

Rentals are in demand all across DFW, so 600/mo might be low. Not impossible, though.

Avoid Haltom City. Lots of cheap and run-down apartments there, but the 12-gauge commentary comes to mind...

If you can find extended stay hotels that are North of Alliance, that would be beneficial from a traffic perspective. I-35W is under major construction, and the area around Western Center is high-traffic and a heavy construction zone right now. As mentioned already, Roanoke would be a great place to look. Your commute would be a breeze.

I know there is one in Trophy Club right off of HWY 114...

So a lot has happened in the last few weeks. Due to just some of the difficulty (insanity) of finding a "decent" apartment in the FW area, I wound up finding a place to the north a bit in Denton. So i guess I will be commuting a little bit and it seems that the Denton area is more of a "college town", though im used to that, as my current local is one as well (UNCW).

That being said, can anyone give me futer insight / opinions / thoughts, as to either the Denton area or suggestions as to commuting to the Haslet area?

Thanks!

Denton to Haslet will be on I35W. There's really no alternative as 377 is only two lanes and has red lights and school zones.
