Interlochen is beautiful. Definitely a prize neighborhood. Thanks for the input. You and my wife are on the same page about Eastern Hills. We took a trip through there, and she just looked at me afterward, with a questioning look on her face. I guess I look through the mess and see the bones underneath. Or maybe I can see what it was like 50 years ago. Still, more than a few interesting homes in the area and a treasure trove for someone looking for an unmolested midcentury classic.

FWIW, I've got a buddy on the planning commission. Many of those apartments are not going to be allowed to do significant renovations when their life-cycle is complete. They will be torn down. Given that many of the apartments are in the 30-year old range, it's a good opportunity to get in on the ground floor, so to speak. But if the apartments are on a 50-year life cycle, that's a long time to be on guard every night. Perhaps my kids will be able to move there without trepidation about 2040.

I used to have eyes like yours. A little over ten years ago when I lived in NJ, I'd especially enjoy driving in Newark in the wee hours of Sunday mornings, just as the sun was peeking over the horizon. In the calm of a Sunday morning, Newark - widely regarded as the worst of ghettos, was one of the most peaceful and beautiful places imaginable to me. I could actually see through the urban blight to the beauty that was still there, really.

Time marches on and society (popular opinion) beats the beauty out of many things.

Keep those eyes as long as you can.
