We are considering a move to the metroplex. My wife has been told that there is a major nursing shortage in Texas. She has also been told that nursing only pays about 36,000. per year. She is a Level one trauma nurse in Phoenix, thru a registry (on call) but she makes about 65,000. here.
Please tell us that she has been misinformed. I cant see moving to take that kind of a pay cut. Any nurses out there that can ease her troubled heat?

Yes...I keep hearing that there is a nursing shortage in Texas. That salary seems really low...even for just starting out. Is she an RN? If so, then the salary would be quite a bit higher, especially with experience. You might check with the major hospitals in the area to see what they say.

Maybe this site will be helpful: RN Earnings/Salaries (broken link)

$36k is an LVN salary, not a RN. You wife will make a lot more than that!

Have her call the human resources departments at the area's major hospitals to get salary info. This would be the most accurate way of getting info. Baylor All Saints, Harris Methodist Fort Worth and John Peter Smith are some of the bigger ones to try first

Default nursing shortage

Hello, I will be moving to the fort worth area next month.I am an RN med surg with 2 1/2 yrs of experience. the starting salaries for rn are around $21/hr. this is at a major hospital in fort worth. I was quoted at $23.50/hr for having some experience. Yes this is very low considering I started off at $26/hr in may 2005 and now most nurses are starting at over $30/hr here in cali. of course the cost of living is higher but the nurses here are constantly getting pay raises. Your pay should be much higher considering your experience and specialty
